April Foreclosures Increase in Volusia County, Decrease in Flagler
While the number of foreclosure filings decreased nationally in April, Volusia County was an unfortunate exception.
There were 1,439 Volusia County properties that received default, auction or repossession notices in April, up 12.4 percent from 1,280 in April 2009, according to RealtyTrac, a California-based firm that tracks foreclosures. In Flagler County, 233 properties received some kind of foreclosure notice, down 3.7 percent from 242 a year ago.
The good news is that foreclosure activity in both counties was down from the previous month, with a total of 1,672 in April, down 11 percent from 1,884 in March. But statewide, Florida ranked second only to California, for the highest number of filings.
Florida's foreclosure filing rate of one per 182 housing units ranks third in the nation. Volusia's filing rate of one in 173 homes ranked it 14th among the state's 67 counties. Flagler was ranked 23rd with a 1-in-210 rate.
