Volusia County School Superintendent Margaret Smith was honored Wednesday as Florida's Superintendent of the Year for2010. Her selection was announced Wednesday during a luncheon in her honor in Tampa at a joint meeting of the Florida School Boards Association and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents. Smith, Volusia's schools chief since 2004, was described as "an excellent educational leader" by Bill Montford, chief executive officer of the state superintendents group.
"Peg Smith is an exemplary superintendent and works hard to make her school district a leader in all areas of operation," he noted.
