Home Trends are Changing
Just read a good blog post by Styled, Staged & Sold about the changing fads in home design. Remember the avocado appliances? The shag carpet? Look for these 6 fads to lose favor in the coming year:
1. Fireplaces - already down from 62% in new homes to 51%
2. Carpet - hardwood floors are replacing carpet, and ceramic tile/vinyl flooring
3. Living room - 34% of consumers don't care about having a living room
4. Kitchen desks - trend is now to larger desks with a messaging center in or near the family room
5. Skylights - only 10% of new homes in 2009 will have skylights
6. Upscale kitchen finishes - another casualty of the downward spiral of the economy - buyers now want affordable, low-maintenance laminate countertops
Not included in the article, but my own observation - look for everything Green to replace water hogs, high energy appliances, etc. Buy Green, Be Green = save money and help the environment.
If you have other specific styles you want in a home, just contact me - I'll find them for you!
