Within Palm Coast is an area known as The Hammock, a natural geophysical form of forested land that rises above an adjacent marsh area. Hammocks were common in Florida, but many have been destroyed by development. Within The Hammock are three distinct communities, which occupy a swath of land east of the Malacompra Greenway preserve, extending to the Atlantic coastline. Hammock Dunes Well-planned and superbly executed, Hammock Dunes is a private, gated golf course community set directly on the Atlantic shore with 1.5 miles of private beach. Two championship golf courses flank this development – one a Tom Fazio design and the other a Rees-Jones creation, the Creek Course. Both are a challenging 18 holes and travel through the natural areas of Hammock Dunes. Many of the single-family homes face the fairways. The oceanfront clubhouse is spectacular, with views of ocean on one side and golf links on the other. There is a choice of restaurants, a lounge, five clay tennis courts, heated pool and spa, and fitness facilities. For the boating enthusiast, Island Estates is simply incomparable: a 2-mile long island with every home site fronting either the Intracoastal Waterway or canals. Ocean HammockThe community of Ocean Hammock fronts the Jack Nicklaus course, a stunning and challenging par 72 featuring six holes directly on the ocean. Ocean Reserve Estates is more wooded and exclusive, with some large estate parcels on the golf course, a few lakeside parcels, and a handful that adjoin the nature preserve. From here, the pedestrian bridge leads to the sands of Ocean Hammock’s beach.
