Developed by ITT Corporation in 1969, the original plan included 48,000 homesites on 42,000 acres. An extensive water management system was designed around 46 miles of freshwater canals and 23 miles of saltwater canals. Located north of Daytona Beach, Palm Coast is just minutes from historic St. Augustine. Jacksonville, with its international airport, is an hour away, while Orlando is still an easy drive by Interstate. Framed by the Intracoastal Waterway and laced with a web of deep water canals, PalmCoast offers limitless opportunities for boaters. The city has an active Parks & Recreation Department, and Flagler County maintains an office for the Council on Aging in Palm Coast.
 Real Estate: Housing costs are lower in Palm Coast than any other community in mid-Florida, which makes the area a very desirable place to relocate. Resales range from $50,000 to $350,000. Flagler County, one of the fastest growing counties in the nation, with a population of about 70,000, is forecast by the University of Florida to have one of the highest job growth rates in the state by 2010.
